This is a truly very attractive and rare example of the Cholm shield.
Shield is made in steel and it is the so-called "Long M variant" that comes in a clearly used condition being a tunic removed piece.
The silver-greyish-coloured shield is complete of its metal back-plate, its three prongs, its piece of field-grey and woolen-based backing, and its protective backing paper. The shield shows obvious age simply caused by moderate wear and/or decades of storage only: some minimal (rust)staining is visible and/or present, but the shield still retains truly extraordinary detail as to be expected. The shield was of course never cleaned nor polished and comes as found with an amazing patina.
These original Cholm shields are nowadays very hard to find. A great and desirable shield that is nowadays rarely offered for sale.
