LUFTWAFFE HONOR GOBLET - EHRENPOKAL
WW2 German Luftwaffe Ehrenpokal or Luftwaffe Honor Goblet. This was an award given for execeptional acheivement in the Air War 1940-45 (for more information see the "Honor Goblet" chapter in the book "The awards of the Luftwaffe" of Antonio Scapini).
The Honor Goblet is die struck, 3-piece construction and named on lower portion to UNTEROFFIZIER HEINZ KÜHL AM 2.10.42. The maker name is marked on bottom Joh.Wagner&Sohn and FEINSILBER AUFLAGE ALPAKA (silver plated marks). Overall an excellent condition honor goblet, no dings, bumps, no scratches.
Kühl was a Luftwaffe bomber and the Pokal was awarded to him for outstanding achievement in the air war. He served in 3./Kampf-Geschwader 51 "Edelweiss"; the loss of the Uffz. Kühl crew from 3./KG 51 is listed in the GenQu. report from August 6, 1942, while he was flying with a Ju-88 on august 1, 1942 in the Amawir-Krapotki (Russia) area. He was also posthumously awarded with the DKiG (German Cross in Gold) on Decembre 7, 1943.
A bomber crew member Honor Goblet is a rare historical item.
