GERMAN CROSS IN GOLD HANS FRANZKE GROUPING
This is an awsome group, as you can rarely see, belonged to a German Cross in Gold winner.
The group belonged to Major Hans Franzke, that served with Pioniere troops from the beginning until the end of the war. He survived the war.
This impressive group is composed of:
- Certificate of the Dienstauszeichnung der Wehrmacht 4.Klasse as Oberleutnant (1st Lieutenant) while serving in Korps Pionier-Bataillon 42 – October 2, 1936
- Certificate of the Iron Cross Second class as Hauptmann (Captain) while serving in 3. / Pionier-Bataillon 42 - September 20th, 1939 (certificate is in double copy)
- Certificate of the Iron Cross First class as Hauptmann (Captain) while serving in 3. / Pionier-Bataillon 42 - July 4th, 1940
- Preliminary certificate of the German Cross in Gold - February 14th, 1942
- Certificate of the German Cross in Gold as Major, Kommandeur, Pionier-Bataillon 256, 256. Infanterie-Division - February 14th, 1942
- Certificate of the General Assault Badge as Major, Kommandeur, Pionier-Bataillon 256, 256. Infanterie-Division- March 18th, 1942
- Certificate of the Ost Medal as Major - July 20th, 1942
Furthermore the group has the following personal items:
- his Soldbuch;
- 3 pictures (2 studio pictures and one with the Offizierkorps of the Ausbildung u. Ersatz Pionier-Bataillon 17);
- his Major shoulder boards with the cypers with the number 42 and his collar tabs;
- his German Cross in Gold, '57 version, produced by the maker Steinhauer & Luck;
- 4 ribbon bars, 3 post war and one wartime.
All the documents and the personal items are well preserved, they show a lovely patina and overall condition is excellent. The Soldbuch shows the expected usage, it is a screaming "been there" piece, that has seen action on the battlefield. It is a second issue, is complete, only the photo is missing.
Franzke fought mostly on Russian front during all the war; was awarded the German cross in gold 14 February 1942 while serving in Pioneer Battalion 256, for the fighting on the Rshew front.
This is an impressive group, something you only rarely see offered on market.
