GEBIRGSJÄGER Rgt. 98 WEHRPASS GROUPING
Nice Wehrpass grouping to Gebirgsjäger Ludwig Götz.
Götz served from 1937 in Gebirgsjäger Regiment 98 and during the war he fought in the Poland campaign and then in France. After a period of rest and security duties, the regiment was sent in the East for the Russian campaign.
These are the places where, in his last days, Gotz fought: on September 13, the regiment was in the Antonovka area in the Nogai Steppe. On September 19, 1941, the anti-tank ditch of Timoshevka was reached. On September 20, 1941, the order was given to attack the anti-tank ditch, which was heavily defended. The regiment managed to break into the Russian positions and break through them, so that the march to the southeast could be resumed. But after just a few hours the counter-order came: the regiment had to turn east to crush the enemy that had broken through at Balki. This task was completed by October 4, 1941. The advance continued towards the Ukrainian industrial area of Stalino-Makeyevka, where heavy fighting took place.
Gots died on September 29, 1941 in Ukraine.
The wehrpass comes with a lot of entries including the awards:
- Medal for the annexation of Austria;
- Medal for the annexation of Sudeten;
- Infantry Assault Badge;
- Iron Cross Second Class.
Along with the Wehrpass there are his album, his deathcard and a postcard of Gebirgsjäger Regiment 98. The album is interesting because it contains a lot of information of the Regiment, but too bad he was never able to fill it with his personal pictures.
