WEST FRONT CAMPAIGN RINGS BOX

1.095,00 €

Amazing remembrance box that, like a time capsule, survived the war complete with all its content.

The box is a vet bring back piece, made in metal and wood, and contains 4 rings, a commemorative pin and a pendant/medal. The cover shows a metallic oval of oak leaves that contains an helmet over a sword and the writing "WESTFRONT"; on the low right corner there is a hand writing "Landau. Pfalz", indicating the city of Landau that was located on the Siegfrid Line, very close to the French border, and where the owner possibly spent his time during or after the campaign conducted by the germans against the Frrance.

The box contains what follows:

- A commemorative ring dedicated to service on the Western Front, featuring the inscription "Andenken an die Westfront". The front of the ring depicts the face of a soldier in a helmet, resembling a skull. Inside the ring, there is a marking indicating the material — Alpacca. The ring shows signs of wear but remains in excellent condition.

- Second ring is made in brass and shows front with a 88 mm Flak gun and laterally decoration with oak leaves and the writing "WEST - FRONT".

- Third ring depicts a bunker under the writing "WESTFRONT" and the dragon's teeth tank traps in the foreground; ring looks to be made in white metal or Silver.

- Last ring is an extremely researched and rare skull ring with oak leaves motifs and the writing WEST – FRONT. Ring is in excellent condition, made in silver and marked by the maker "Laurin" with his mark and the silver content 835.

- The box contains also a Westfront Commemorative Pin, in silvered tombak, with horizontal pinback; the reverse of the badge inscribed "Andenken an die Westfront" (In remembrance of the Westfront). The front side shows a soldier wearing his helmet.

- Last piece included in this box is a West Front pendant/medal with the typical spiral motif remembering the famous "Westwall" rings and with a round medal; the medal is made in brass and shows the words "WEST FRONT", while on the back side we can see a parchement scroll surrounded by oak branches and leaves and acorns. The owner engraved the center of the scroll with his initials "M P".

This is an impressive box, containing some extremely nice and rare rings. A top historical piece for every collector.
